Who We Are

We design and handcraft custom dog coats (coats for dogs). We are passionate about protecting dogs and other pets from the elements. The outdoor and active lifestyle trend is a movement which includes your furry family member. We use high-quality textiles that offer outstanding comfort and breathability without compromising style.

Our quality designs are waterproof, durable, functional yet fashionable. We use technical fabrics for everyday living in vibrant colors. These superlight textiles combine tear and high-abrasion resistance suitable for the most active pooch in hiking, hunting, mountaineering or running through the bushes in the backyard. They enable excess heat and moisture to escape, thus, keeping your dog comfortable and dry. We pair softshells, bonded two-ply fabrics and insulation with breathable shell and liner fabrics for the right protection in any climate.

A cornerstone feature of our product is the fabric’s waterproofness and ability to quickly dry. All of our dog apparel include reflective trim for safety. We are continually improving and innovating. Our dog coats will enhance your dog’s lifestyle—indoor and outdoor. Now you can spend more time enjoying life with your dog!

Performance Dog Wear is designed and created by the Owner, Lai Neun, Certified Pet Product Designer from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York. We are family-owned and based in Kansas, USA.

Our Mission

Our mission is to design and create fashionable and durable custom dog coats to protect dogs from the elements in any climate.

At Performance Dog Wear, we love our pets

Our Vizsla Raylan is the reason Performance Dog Wear LLC was created. When we went to pick him up on a cold day in February 2012, I fell in love with him. He was the cutest thing at 7 pounds, and he was so cold! As soon as we got home, I crocheted him a sweater while he was laying on my lap. He knew it was just for him and he loved wearing it.

We decided to name him Raylan, like the main character in the television series, Justified, who is a United States Marshall. Let me tell you—when it comes to personality, Raylan the US Marshall and Raylan the Vizsla are the same—fast on the draw and fast on the paws, debonair, and a little edgy. Who ever thought a dog could be a redneck, behave like a toddler, be vocal, and so crazy smart?!

Raylan and Juno

Raylan wouldn’t go out in the rain unless he was covered. So, there I was, covering him with my poncho, umbrella, or coat while he took care of his business. He was always cold and sensitive. We call him, “The Prince of Leawood” (the city where we live). He demanded a winter coat, a fall coat, a rain coat, among many other things. We had a difficult time finding products for large dogs that met my criteria for waterproof, abrasion resistant, soft, and lightweight. So we started researching textiles and decided to start making our own coats, harness and collars for Raylan in our humble home in Leawood, Kansas.

Raylan loves agility training and the great outdoors. We found fabrics that accommodate his speed and personality. We received many compliments and requests for custom coats and decided that the best thing we could do was share our product and enthusiasm with other dog owners.

Giving Back to the Community

I believe in giving back to the community and paying it forward. I volunteer at Great Plains SPCA as a Dog Hero and Sparkle Crew Hero giving the dogs a much needed walk, bath or quality time to help relieve some of the stress of living in a shelter. I’m also a Cat Sparkle Crew Hero helping make their surroundings squeaky clean and shiny.

I donate my custom dog coats for fundraising campaigns to rescue organizations and animal shelters. I have donated throughout the years to charities such as the Salvation Army, Kansas City Hospice, Soldiers’ Angels, Wounded Warrior Project, Society of the Little Flower and many others. I do not hesitate to lend a helping hand, whether it’s holding down the Fort pet sitting the dogs at Queen of Paws Boutique & Spa so the Owner can get to her doctor appointment; translating or interpreting in Spanish; or just helping out a neighbor.
